Abstract

The paper deals with the competency- and activity-based approach to training future speech therapists, including the practice-focused training arrangement. The study describes different workshops run during the course on TIPS Methods in Educational Process by the Special (Defectology) Education Department of Teachers’ Training Institute at North-Eastern Federal University. The research examines the introduction of the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TIPS) into the educational process from the historical and education science perspective. It reveals a range of applications for TIPS methods in practice-focused training of students majoring in Defectology. The author describes the workshops arranged to apply the methods of synectics and focal objects to vocabulary speech therapy with children with general speech underdevelopment at Saidyy Center for Psychological and Educational Assistance to Children with Disabilities at the Special (Defectology) Education Department of North-Eastern Federal University.
