Abstract

This paper critically re-evaluates the status and significance of Puerchagi , a pivotal resource in the study of Pu’er tea culture during the Qing Dynasty. In this research, its contribution to the understanding of Pu’er tea culture is redefined by verifying the historical accuracy and cultural authenticity of Puerchagi through a comprehensive analytical approach. The study delves into the geographical origin, production method, and socioeconomic impact of Pu’er tea, in addition to an examination of the narrative style and methodology of Puerchagi. This research uncovers the historical context of Pu’er tea and enhances the understanding of its cultural heritage. The result is as follows. First, Puerchagi followed the compilation order, method, and most of the cited sources of Jeonhaewoohyeongji. Second, the description of Puer tea tribute represents the author's unique contribution. Third, most of the literature and materials related to Puer tea up to the early days of Daoguang were compiled through Puerchagi. Furthermore, since then, Puerchagi has become a model in Puer tea cultural history and has exerted a lasting influence.
