Abstract

The article tells about family upbringing and educational opportunities for children from wealthy families in Renaissance Italy. Renaissance Italian families were patriarchal and multi-generational. The stable position of the family required the presence of a sufficient number of children. Wealthy and noble families helped their heirs get a good education. The children received their primary education in private and municipal educational institutions. Higher education was provided by universities, in the teaching of which humanistic tendencies were growing.
