Abstract

Goals. The article attempts an analysis of sociodemographic asymmetries across the regions of South Russia (Republic of Kalmykia, Astrakhan, Volgograd, and Rostov Oblasts). Materials. The work examines available statistical data on a number of indicators, such as population number, fixed assets value, gross average accrued monthly wages, per capita average monthly money income, income inequality. Results. The insights into statistical accounts attest to there are evident asymmetries within economies of the regions under review, the latter being characterized by low incomes, poverty, and pronounced income inequality. The paper suggests the main reasons underlying the regions remain that economically troubled are low wage and income levels, rampant unemployment that result in residents tend to become more migration-minded.
