Abstract

The agreement on the facilitation of the issuance of short stay visas between EU and Russia was signed on May 25th, 2006 in Sochi. Both parties are globally satisfied with the fulfillment of their obligations under the agreement, but the negotiations on a crucial issue of the establishment of a visa free regime have stalled, hampering the progress of bilateral cooperation. Both parties realize that such a regime would promote bilateral business, trade and tourism. However, while the technical issues have been settled a much-awaited political decision is still to be taken.
