Abstract

Evidence of sedentary culture may be the Chinese theatre in the nomadic Mongolia. Many ethnic Chinese people lived in populated areas such as Urga, Khiagt, Uliastay and Khovd. The Chinese people performed circus acts, humorous performance, as well as pantomime and acts that advocated religious activity. All those took place in the streets, attracting the attention of many viewers. One of those theatres operated in the city of Maimaa in Urga, while the other two operated consistently with professional actors in buildings particularly made for performances in Urga’s Chinese town.
