Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of perfectionism on self-esteem and anger of leisure sports participants. Through convenience sampling method, selected 317 survey questionnaires were used for final analysis from leisure sports participants. With the collected data, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were performed by SPSS 15.0. The results of the analysis were summarized as follows. First, the gender showed significant difference on other-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism, but no significant difference on self-oriented perfectionism. and the age no significant difference on perfectionism. Moreover, exercise type showed significant difference on self-oriented perfectionism and other-oriented perfectionism, but no significant difference on socially prescribed perfectionism. Second, the self-oriented perfectionism impacts positively(+) influence, but other-oriented perfectionism negatively(-) influence on self-esteem. Moreover, the self-oriented perfectionism impacts negatively(-) influence, but socially prescribed perfectionism positively(+) influence on state anger, and the socially prescribed perfectionism impacts positively(+) influence on trait anger. Third, the self-esteem was revealed to function as a mediator on the relationship between perfectionism and state anger, trait anger.
