Abstract

Relying on archival materials and published sources, the article analyses the organization and implementation of statistical surveys in Steppe Kazakhstan in the second half of the XIX - at the beginning of the XX century. During the census campaign, special attention was paid to the following issues: informational provision, adaptation of census takers’ guides to the conditions of the Kazakh steppe, involvement of census takers. Having taken into account specificity of nomadic households, regional statistical services edited formsheets of the Central Statistical Committee and compiled their own ones.
