Abstract
The article examines the development of the national historiography of the Alexander Central Convict Prison, which occupied an extremely important place in the penitentiary system of the Russian Empire. Among the analyzed scientific works, the author highlights the monograph of F.A. Kudryavtsev, published in 1936, however, based on the study of a significant number of historiographical sources, comes to the conclusion that the greatest contribution to the study of this topic was made by historians of the post-Soviet period.
