Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the conditions of genesis and evolution of videogames in Ukraine in the 80s and 90s of the 20 th century in the context of gaming platforms, i.e. computers, game consoles and arcade machines. The research methodology involved the combination of the analytical method in terms of specifications of gaming platforms and the comparative method in terms of trends in videogames in Ukraine and in the West. The scientific novelty of the work consists in the first attempt to collect and analyze the facts concerning genesis and evolution of videogames in Ukraine in the 80s and 90s of the 20 th century in scientific literature. Conclusions . Radio amateurs and enthusiasts were the main driving force in creating and advancing videogames in the aforementioned period. Most of the early Ukrainian game projects were «clones» of popular games. The phenomenon of «piracy» was a big problem for the development of the industry. On the other hand, «pirate» games drew the first communities of Ukrainian gamers.

Особливості тогочасного ринку ігрових пристроїв дозволили багатьом фірмам крім Atari випускати власні Pong-подібні системи для домашнього використання. Наприклад, американська Atari VCS3, яка вийшла в 1977 р., не тільки не з’явилася на радянському ринку в якості оригіналу, що може бути пояснено складними відносинами між державами, але й не мала радянських аналогів-«клонів».Радянські консолі навіть у 80-ті рр. Хоча зі споживацької точки зору найбільш вигідним придбанням для відеоігор були подібні телевізійні приставки, «культура відеоігор» у Радянському Союзі пішла іншим шляхом.
