Abstract

In this article the author provides a brief description of ChinaKazakhstan economic and political partnership in the post-Soviet period. The author tries to reconstruct the main milestones marking the development of the Chinese-Kazakh partnership by years, to highlight the main points of convergence in the economic sphere, as well as the political interests connecting the partners, determining the dynamics of those interests, its dependence on shifts in the leadership of the People’s Republic of China and transformations in Chinese foreign policy goals. Of particular interest are the visits to China and Kazakhstan, respectively, by the top officials of the two countries – presidents and prime ministers, the negotiations they conducted, the statements they made and the documents they signed. The author believes that the business mobility of the top officials of the Chinese and Kazakhstani establishment can be considered a factor that directly affects the preservation and development of the strategic partnership between the two countries. Similarly, it can be considered a driving force of the Silk Road Economic Belt (the land part of the “One Belt, One Road” project). The author believes that the study of Chinese-Kazakh rapprochement is an urgent task for Russian academic studies, given the significance of both the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People’s Republic of China for the Russian Federation, as well as Russia’s interest in the implementation of Chinese integration initiatives
