Abstract

The article is devoted to studying the process of changing aesthetic attitudes and their practical implementation in fine arts of Kabardino-Balkaria during the Khrushchev Thaw. The authors come to the conclusion about its ambivalent character: the contradictory combination of trends typical of Stalin’s “great style” and innovative artistic practices; reasons for this state are revealed. The paper proves that in the situation of dependence on the Union centre, the ideologeme of the national content of art helped the artists of the republic to form and develop stylistic specificity.
