Abstract

The paper aims to reveal influence of the “light cavalry” youth movement on the course and consequences of “purges” of the end of the 1920s - the beginning of the 1930s. Scientific originality of the study is conditioned by the fact that the researcher tackles the poorly investigated issue of the “light cavalry” activity, introduces archival materials, eyewitnesses’ testimonies into scientific circulation and interprets historical facts through the lens of modern vision. The conclusion is made that consequences of the “light cavalry” involvement in “purges” were basically negative. The author believes that ambitious purpose of establishing workers’ control over the state apparatus does not correspond to the outcomes.
