Abstract
The article considers the formation of the Soviet judicial system in Karachay and Circassia in 1918-1926. The author describes the basic development stages, identifies the common and specific features of the process of forming judicial power in the region. Special attention is paid to the co-existence of the state judicial system and religious (Muslim) legal proceedings. The paper analyzes the staff structure of Karachay and Circassian judicial bodies, traces the distribution of juridical institutions within the region’s territory, and identifies the dependence of the judicial system on administrative and territorial transformations. The article tackles the problem of the interrelation of the judicial system and executive power bodies.
