Abstract

The core concerns of “Ashkhatank” newspaper of Smyrna were issues on national identity preservation in Ottoman Turkey. The periodical intertwined them with Armenian upbringing and national education issues, and national education viewed as a necessary pre-requisite to remain Armenian. The newspaper referred to these issues in the field mostly in the frame of educational and upbringing problems.
