Abstract

Reforming the armed forces of Ukraine at the current stage puts forward increased demands on officer personnel, their business, professional, general human and moral and fighting qualities. Paying attention to the priority importance of professional training of officers, it is necessary to establish a spiritual connection between different generations of Ukrainian officers in order to attract the young generation of soldiers through education and training to the traditions, culture and achievements of the past. One of the ways to further improve the education of command staff in modern conditions is to study the rich experience of development of the theory and practice of education of military personnel, in particular, the second half of the 19th - the first third of the 20th century, when important reforms of military education took place, which led to the formation of a system of military education of youth. The article reveals the peculiarities of the prerequisites for the establishment and activity of military institutions in the Yelysavethrad region in 1859–1886. The results of the analysis of historical and pedagogical sources regarding the activity of military institutions in the Yelysavethrad region in 1859–1886 have been presented. It has proved that the problem of the development of military education in general and the activity of the Yelysavethrad Cavalry cadet school, in particular, attracted the attention of researchers of the second half of the 19th – beginning of the 21st century. It was concluded that the origin of military education in Yelysavethrad region began with the opening of the officer cavalry school in 1859. An important element of the training of entrants to military schools was the military pro-gymnasium, which operated in Yelysavethrad from 1869 to 1886. The school's activities were reinforced by classes with cavalrymen in the military units of the corps. Prospects for further exploration can be directly seen in the study of the peculiarities of the organization of the educational process in the military educational institutions of the region.
