Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the frailty level of community-dwelling elderly and to identify the frailty factors affecting the health-related quality of life(HRQOL) by age group. This study was conducted to survey 314 elderly people aged 65 years or older who were using community health center. Among the study participants, 10.8% were in frail condition and 89.2% were in non-frail condition. The elderly with frailty had lower HRQOL and lower cognitive level, higher depression score and more chronic diseases. As a result of analyzing frailty factors affecting HRQOL according to age group, ADL and mobility affected the HRQOL in the early aging group (65 to 74), while middle aging group(75 to 84) were affected by mobility, oral health and outgoing, and late aging group(85 and over) were influenced by mobility, nutrition, outgoing and cognition. Therefore, it is necessary to detect the weakness factors affecting the HRQOL and to develop tailored health management program for the frail elderly by age group.
