Abstract

Objective of the study is to identify the most relevant heterostereotypes in the structure of socio-cultural adaptation of foreigners studying in Russia. The methodological basis of the research is a set of theoretical ideas about intercultural communication and socio-cultural adaptation as processes in which heterostereotypes are a set of value judgments about other nations. Research results. The Russians' intellectual and sociable abilities, strong-willed and altruistic qualities are recognizable traits, the totality of which may be a characteristic of the Russian ethnos, but hardly exhaustive and the only characteristic. These Russian ethnic group's qualities and abilities have different socio-cultural significance for the perception of the integral image of the Russian people through the eyes of a foreigner and largely depend on the length of foreigners’ residence in Russia. The prospects of the study is the identification of more extended stereotypes with their details in accordance with the ethno-cultural affiliation of the subjects of the study.
