Abstract

The aim of the research is to analyze two components of Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev)'s composer creative work — the liturgical and extra-liturgical — in the context of contemporary assessments and in relation to domestic traditions of sacred music. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the first-time approach to studying the music of the archpastor through the prism of his professional and enlightening activities. As a result, the features of the liturgical branch of Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev)'s composer activity were systematized, the origins of the archpastor’s extra-liturgical music were identified, and the dual nature of extra-liturgical musical compositions was revealed: the clarification of doctrine fundamentals in an accessible form and the enlightened dialogue on faith and Christianity.
