Abstract

The article discusses possible ways for decreasing the ionized gas exhaust zone in electrical apparatuses with a view to minimize the dimensions of the apparatuses and make them more reliable and efficient. Investig at ionsaimedats haping the apparatus ionize dga sexhaust zone occupying the minimal spac eallowed the following conclusions to be drawn. Cut out s in the arc quenchingplates facilitate intensequenching of arc; thin meshes are not able to withstand the thermal loads; therefore, they should be made of thick wire with d = 0.5—2 mm with good thermal conductivity (copper or brass);negative charge on the flame quenching mesh results in a smaller ionized gas exhaust zone and offers additional resistance to outflow of plasma through the mesh. This results inmoreintense deionization of plasma under the mesh. With an egative potential applied to the mesh, volume charges appear in the plasma, which facilitate the deionization process. The investigation results made it possible to develop the designs of flame quenching devices completely eliminating the exhaust zone.
