Abstract

This qualitative study was conducted by a content analysis of the reflective journals of senior nursing students to understand the meaning of the experience after simulation-based practicum based on the cases in the delivery room. The study yielded 26 themes, 11 clusters of themes, and four categories related to nursing students’ experiences. These categories included ‘tension and pressure’, ‘limit of my capabilities between knowledge and practice’, ‘to overcome with relationships and communication’, and ‘achievement through preparation and immersion’. During the simulation exercise, participants encountered numerous challenges when confronted with unfamiliar maternity cases. However, they also experienced a sense of accomplishment as they fully immersed themselves in the simulated situations. Simulation practice in women’s health nursing should be consistently enhanced to bolster nursing competencies. This approach offers nursing students opportunities for direct participation beyond traditional clinical practice.
