Abstract

This study tried to verify the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between social support and parenting stress for mothers of children with developmental disabilities. Data were collected from 208 mothers of children with developmental disabilities utilizing developmental disability-related facilities in Jeju. We conducted descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, sobel test, etc. The results of the study showed that social support and self-esteem of mothers of children with developmental disabilities had a statistically significant negative effect on parenting stress. and the full mediating effect of self-esteem was found in the relationship between social support and parenting stress. Based on these results, practical implications to reduce parenting stress in mothers of children with developmental disabilities were suggested.
