Abstract

Small and medium enterprises are a significant factor in ensuring the independence of the country's economic system. The article examines the dynamics of the development of this sector of the economy in Russia. The purpose of the study is to assess the development trends and success of small and medium enterprises in Russia based on retrospective information. The results of the analysis of the dynamics of the development of the situation in small and medium enterprises, including by region, are presented. The relevance of the study is substantiated, a review of publications on this topic is carried out, and the features of the tools used in the calculations are given. The trade turnover of small and medium enterprises over the past nine years has been investigated, and the contribution of this sector to the country's GDP has been estimated. Using the toolkit of frequency distributions, the structure of small and medium enterprises in the context of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation has been analyzed. The main statistical parameters of these distributions are calculated and their dynamics is analyzed. It is concluded that for the successful formation of the SME sphere, further development of market economic mechanisms is desirable. It was revealed that in the near-crisis periods the differences between the SME the subjects of the Russian Federation decrease, in economically favorable years they increase. It is noted that the regions of Russia differ significantly from each other and it is advis-able to take these differences into account when implementing the corresponding national projects.
