Abstract

The article examines the language peculiarities of the texts belonging to a new genre of the Internet-journalism - a Twitter-reportage. The author pays special attention to such a distinctive feature of this genre as the startling language. Analysing the Twitter-reportages of famous political figures, representatives of culture and art, the author concludes about the techniques to create a shock effect at the lexical level. Among them are the following ones: the usage of low vocabulary and vocabulary with the clearly expressed emotional colour, the usage of words in their figurative meanings, insertion of occasionalisms.
