Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of ascertaining the nature of the science-fiction text, which is correlated with the formed science of a certain period of time. The paper argues that the text belonging to the field of this or that science is the main criterion for its acknowledgement as a science-fiction one. The author determines English science-fiction texts belonging to various fields of science, as well as their referential basis, which makes it possible to form an integral idea about the informative range of topics touched upon by science fiction authors.
