Abstract

The scientific concept of Professor V.G. Rudelev, which has influenced the formation of problematics connected with the study of traditional folk culture language in the region, and was further developed in the researches of his students, making up a significant part of the scientific heritage of the Tambov School of Linguistics, is analyzed. The main focus of the researchers is on the development of the ideas of V.G. Rudelev's Candidate's dissertation, devoted to the study and description of the ethnographic vocabulary of the people's dwelling on the Ryazan land (pub-lished in Ryazan in 1995). V.G. Rudelev proposed a complex approach to the description of lexi-cal material, which allows to consider the material not as isolated lexical facts, but as a complex system, in which all words related to the lexical composition of each patois are simultaneously op-posed to each other and interconnected with each other. We establish that V.G. Rudelev’s dissertation had an innovative character and has not lost its methodological significance for modern science and is conceptually important for the study of Tambov dialects. In fact, representing a new stage in the development of philology, the work of V.G. Rudelev became a methodological basis for the collection, description and interpretation of the local tradition and contributed to the successful work of the Tambov scientific school representatives in collaborative programs at the all-Russian level.
