Abstract
The authors specifies the concept of the region, defines its essential features, identifies the basic prerequisites for the subjectivity of the region as an economic agent, assesses the compliance of the subject of the Federation and the federal district with the features of the region. The work justifies the role of the subject of the Federation and the federal district in the system of state regulation of economic development.
