Abstract
It is very important to analyze the snow melting performance and optimal design of heating devices for stable operation of railway turnouts in winter snow situations. However, in previous research, heating devices themselves were the focus, without consideration of snow melting characteristics. In this paper, to analyze the snow melting characteristics of a heating device under snow-covered conditions, thermal analysis was performed considering phase change. In addition, since the thermal properties of snow can change sensitively according to snow-density, the snow melting characteristics of the heating device were analyzed for three types of snow-density. As a result of analyzing the snow melting characteristics, it was confirmed that the lower the snow density, the wider the snow melting range and the higher the maximum temperature of the heating device. From this, it can be inferred that, for identical snow cover heights, the performance of the heating device deteriorates in wet snow conditions with high density.
