Abstract
The article contains a description of the discipline “Texture in Music of the XXth century”, which emerged from an optional author course and since 2004 has occupied a firm place in the curriculum of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music. Together with “Rhythmics in Music of the XXth century”, this course has become a bearer of strategic functions of modern music education in the block of elective disciplines. It is taught to bachelors in the field of computer music and arrangement and to composers, as well as within the framework of the course “Actual Problems of Theoretical and Historical Musicology” to postgraduate students in the specialty 5.10.3. — “Types of Arts (Musical Art”). The author substantiates the expediency of referring to texture as an integral component of the composer’s style, which is studied in interaction with vocal science, harmony, timbre, compositional techniques and shaping processes. The specificity of the subject of the study requires the introduction into musicological usage of a system of concepts that contribute to the creation of an integral concept of texture, the main provisions of which become the foundation of integral analysis.
