Abstract
The actual problem of understanding law as an established, socio-cultural phenomenon has always occupied an important place in the spiritual arsenal of man. Law is a multidimensional concept, and the science of law develops and consolidates deep and diverse information. The article discusses the concept and tendency of the institution of the church to the environment of law in general and law in particular. The analysis of the subject under consideration is carried out on the example of Medieval Italy. It also reveals the relationship of the philosophical and legal category of the environment of law and law as such. The author substantiates the methodological significance of this category among other theoretical and legal categories.
