Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the mediating effect of wedding anniversary ritual on the relationship between spousal role importance and family health in middle-age. Married middle-aged individuals between 40 and 64 years old were surveyed from April 20 to April 30, 2018, and the data of 314 respondents were analyzed for this study. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, it was found that wedding anniversaries were celebrated every year by middle-aged married couples along with their family members. Wedding anniversary rituals together held a special meaning for each family. Second, family health had a significant positive correlation with spousal role importance and wedding anniversary ritual, and spousal role importance also was positively related with wedding anniversary ritual. Third, a mediation regression analysis was conducted to examine whether wedding anniversary ritual had a mediating effect on spousal role importance and family health, and the result verified that wedding anniversary ritual had a partial mediating effect. Based on these results, this study proposed new wedding anniversary ritual contents as a mediation for linking spousal role importance and
 family health among middle-aged families.
