Abstract

The purpose of this article is to identify key factors influencing the learning potential using the natural science collections of museums, with a particular focus on the school audience. To understand the significance of natural science museum collections in pedagogical activity, the authors present an overview of research on non-formal scientific learning and the model of the “school – museum” relationship. The article examines the role of natural science collections in museums in relation to the cognitive, affective, and social aspects of learning. The role that natural science museum collections play in the professional development of teachers was also emphasized.
