Abstract

Oxidative stress is the most important pathogenetic link in the development of acute pancreatitis. We evaluated the level of oxidative stress in patients with acute pancreatitis at mild, moderate and severe forms of the disease. Irrespective of the severity degree of the pathological condition oxidative processes in erythrocytes of patients with acute pancreatitis prevail over antioxidant ones. Decrease in GSH content and GST activity makes the greatest contribution to the development of oxidative stress, especially in the severe form of the disease.
