Abstract

A rejection of basic values in modern society encourages one to study the content, forms and structures of youth subculture which is a source of the value system for various population groups, including the non-youth. The dominant individualistic values and the need of the younger generation for self-affirmation and self-fulfillment increase the attractiveness and relevance of subcultural strata, especially ones focused on art and artistic creativity which serve as a model of both value system and lifestyle for young people. In the context of various strata of contemporary youth subculture, the favorable environment is created for the social adaptation of the personality in order to compensate for social, property, and educational inequality. This makes them attractive to different population groups. The trend towards the displacement of high culture in the subcultural space widely replicated by popular culture makes it possible to keep a significant part of today’s youth in the field of true cultural values.
