Abstract
The study analyzes students’ interest in history reflected in the topic of a small paper written in a high school East Asian history class. Students’ interests varied from deepening the contents of East Asian history textbooks to reflecting their personal interests.BR Students did their best to study history when they were exploring themselves. It was challenging for students to decide on topics, search, organize and write small papers with learning initiative. However, after completing the small paper, the students rated it as ‘fun.’ The present writer interpreted that this reaction came because students gained achievement and confidence while studying history with learning initiative. It should be acknowledged that students have an interest in history, a willingness to learn, and confidence as a result of learning. Therefore, this writer suggests that students need a history exploration subject that they can explore with learning initiative.
