Abstract

The purpose of the research is to classify forms of educational activity relating to the musical life of a provincial town and to describe them in a brief manner, using the cultural events held in Saratov at the beginning of the XX century as an example. The article analyses the main types of educational activities identified basing on the material of Saratov regional tradition, which involve the following: organising regular concert life, including holding public concerts, well-thought-out repertoire policy, publishing materials on art in the local periodicals, holding public lectures on music, forming amateur ensembles, and, finally, building a system of music education, including public education. Scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that the educational trends that became quite clearly evident at the beginning of the XX century have not yet been a subject of special study and have not been considered as a system of principles. As a result of the research, it is shown that the types of educational activity that manifested themselves in the life of Saratov at the beginning of the XX century, on the one hand, correspond to the nationwide educational trends in the field of musical art, and on the other hand, they closely interact with each other and contribute to intensive development of musical culture in the region.
