Abstract

The article presents new materials about the life and work of Kokhanovskaia (Nadezhda S. Sokhanskaia, 1823–1884), a writer who was close to the Slavophiles. The study focuses on her visit to St. Petersburg during her long trip to the two Russian capitals in 1862 and on the reflection of her impressions of St. Petersburg in her stories. 13 letters, which Sokhanskaia wrote to Anna F. Tyutcheva during that year, are published here for the first time.
