Abstract

The article illustrates the issue of the application of music therapy in the socio-cultural space of European countries and the USA. The article examines the basic principles of music therapy and its application in various spheres of life, including medicine, education, and rehabilitation. The authors focus on different approaches to music therapy and its different forms, such as individual therapy and group therapy. Special attention is paid to the use of music therapy for children and adolescents, the elderly and people with various types of disabilities. To carry out a scientific analysis of music therapy in the socio-cultural space of the countries of Europe and the USA, the historical precursors of music therapy in this territory were considered. A brief description of music and medicine of primitive times will help to explain how modern music therapy is compatible with the modern scientific approach to work with human defects. Historically, the phenomenon of music has always been closely related to people's worldviews. The "musical and epistemological" activity of a person was determined by a deep inner need to know the world, oneself, one's place in the world, the desire to find a point of support in the form of the law of harmony, which explains the expediency of external and internal states experienced. The article provides examples of successful music therapy projects in Europe and the United States, including programs for people with autism, dyspepsia, and other physical and mental illnesses. Various techniques and tools used in music therapy, such as collaboration with musicians and sound therapy, are also covered.The main challenges and obstacles to the introduction of music therapy into the socio-cultural space of Europe and the USA are highlighted, such as insufficient financial support and insufficient number of qualified specialists in this field. In conclusion, the article demonstrates the importance of music therapy as a tool for improving both physical and psychological health of people in different age categories and living in different socio-cultural conditions.
