Abstract

This study was attempted to identify the mediating effect of empowerment in the relationship between the human rights and person-centered care of nursing staffs and to provide data to develop an intervention program to improve the person-centered care in nursing homes. 206 nursing staffs from Seoul and Gyeong gi Province were surveyed from June 1 to June 25, 2021, and analyzed using a three-stage regression analysis and Sobel test. As a result, a significant correlation was analysed between the variables of human rights, empowerment and person-centered care, and empowerment had a completely mediating effect(β=.44, p<.001) between human rights and person-centered care(Sobel test: Z=4.07, p<.001), explained 39.7% the model. In other words, it was confirmed that human rights and empowerments are important factors for person-centered care. The more human rights awareness is strengthened, the better person-centered care will be. but when empowerment is mediated, the effect of person-centered care on nursing care ability confirmed to be improved. Therefore, in order to improve the person-centered care of nursing staffs, a strategy should be devised to promote sense of human rights and to develop and apply an effective empowerment program.
