Abstract

The article examines the essence of the term “cyber-physical systems” from the standpoint of the evolution of control systems. It is shown that currently in the expert community there is no interpretation of this term that would meet the requirements of consistency and unambiguity of understanding, which hinders the development of this subject area. The methodological basis of the study was the DIKW model and typology of knowledge. The study presents the main approaches to the term of “cyberphysical system”. A functional approach to determining the typology of cyber-physical systems is proposed based on a model of knowledge transformation in the process of decision making. The marketing principle of using the term “smart system” is complemented by a functional approach.
