Abstract

Objective — to study of therapeutic efficacy of acute period of atopic dermatitis with inclusion of probiotic strain Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG® in microencapsulated form) into the complex treatment.Materials and methods. A total of 36 children with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (SCORAD more than 20 points) in the exacerbation phase were examened. All patients were divided into 2 groups: the main group consisted of 26 children (average age 8.6±1.3 years old) and were administrated Preema® in complex therapy, the comparison group comprised 10 children (aged 9.1±2.0 years) treated with standard remedies.Results. After 2-week treatment in the main group SCORAD index reduced to 18.52±3.9 points, which was significantly lower than in the comparison group that made up 24.3±4.8 points (р<0.05). These differences continued to persist in a month follow-up examination (13.9±3.1 in the main group opposite 19.1±4.5 points in comparison group, р<0.05). Statistically significant reduction of skin itching in the 1st group patients was observed on the 7th and the 14th days of treatment. After 2-week therapy none of the main group patients complained of sleep disturbance as opposed to 20% of the comparison group patients (approximately 2 points according to the subjective scale, р<0.05).Conclusion. Addition of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG strain in microencapsulated form to the 3-4 week complex therapy of atopic dermatitis in children causes the statistically significant symptom reduction according to SCORAD index evaluation. Besides, it normalizes sleep disorders and eliminates the itching more quickly as compared to the standard therapy.
