Abstract

This study attempted to examine the mediating effect of social relationships in the effect ofdependence on smart-phones in the upper grades of elementary school on happiness. For thisstudy, an analysis was conducted with a total of 2,265 data corresponding to the 6th gradeperiod of elementary school, which are data for the 3rd year of KCYPS 2018. The researchresults of this study showed, first, that as a result of the correlation analysis between variables,there was a positive correlation between smart-phone overdependence and happiness, teacherrelationship was negative and peer relationship. There was a positive correlation betweenhappiness, peer relationship, and teacher relationship. Second, the higher the level ofdependence on smart-phones, the lower the sense of happiness. Finally, it was found that peerrelations and teacher relationships act as partial mediating variables in the effect of smart-phoneoverdependence on happiness. In order to improve the happiness of senior elementary schoolstudents, prevention of dependence on smart-phones and promotion of social relationshipsshould be considered together.
