성명학의 학문적 정체성 검토 — 학문적 범위와 선행연구 분석을 중심으로 —

Abstract

The nameology is very widely as ‘a comprehensive study related to family names and names’, but also is very narrowly as ‘a namingology related to destiny’, and is treated as a divination technique. However, since precedence research has increased since the 1990s and has been meeting academic requirements, the academic identity of nameology was reviewed based on this. There are a considerable number of studies related to nameology with 10,321. However, there are only 82 academic papers and thesis in very narrow nameology, so there are not many. Although it is called the nameology, the academic field is quite narrow because it is only narrowing the scope to ‘namingology that includes interpretation of destiny-related names’. And it is not included in the classification of academic research fields. Since there are few universities, graduate schools and professors, and only master's and doctoral degrees are produced, so it is difficult to expect the development of nameology in the future. In this situation, it is not easy to discuss, but it is absolutely necessary to establish an academic identity for the development of nameology. Therefore, if I propose based on the analysis of this paper, first, the nameology should get out of the theory of destiny. Second, the academic area should be secured by expanding the scope of nameology. Third, it is necessary to classify the academic research field of nameology. Fourth, there is an urgent need for university and graduate school education to nurture experts of nameology.
