Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the poems of Wangwei (王維, 701~761) through ‘Conceptual Blending Theory’ and to examine the imagery and implications of the poems. Among the poems, the analysis was conducted by selecting four poems that used Allusion as an expression method.
Wangwei is one of the poets that represent the Tang Dynasty. His poems that uses various themes and methods of expression, have been widely respected in the history of literature. Among the various methods of expression, Wangwei creatively used the allusion method. However, since the range of sources of allusion is vast, readers need to understand the background behind the creation of a lyric and the implications of that lyric in order to fully appreciate the poem. Accordingly, it was difficult to interpret and the author raised the need for further research.
In order to analyze Wangwei's poems due to the unique implications of poetry and the creative use of the poet's use of the allusion method, it is necessary to understand the relationship between the superficial presentation of the words in the lyric and the intent of the lyric. This paper is meaningful in effectively explaining how creative imagery are created through ‘the Integration network’, the cognitive model based presented in the Conceptual Blending Theory.
