Abstract

The purpose of the research is to study unique adverbs of place in the Icari lect, belonging to the Dargwa branch of the Nakh-Daghestanian languages. They distinguish direction or location of an object according to the horizontal or vertical axes, as well as their inclination angle and according to the cardinal points. The paper is novel in that it identifies the elements indicating an object’s visibility for or distance from the speaker, which are added to the said spatial adverbs. As a result of the research, the author has described 15 specialised adverbs of place, has given their locative forms, has identified unique spatial adverbs functioning in the Icari lect, which serve to specify an object’s direction or location in a difficult mountainous terrain.
