Abstract

The aim of the research is to identify (emotional preoccupation and its relationship to cognitive dependence among graduate students among graduate students). The study method (2021-2022), and the descriptive research method was adopted, and the size of the basic sample was (400) male and female students from the master’s and doctoral students in the faculties of the University of Al-Qadisiyah were chosen randomly. The final exam consisted of (45) items, and the items were divided into five domains according to the theory (Deci & Ryan: 1999), and the cognitive dependence scale, which in its final form consisted of (45) items, was divided into three domains according to the theory (1950, Cattell) and it has been verified From the apparent validity and construction validity of the two scales, and the discriminatory power of the two scales was calculated, as well as the value of the stability coefficient of the engagement scale was calculated using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient whose value amounted to (0.797) and the cognitive dependence stability coefficient (). The two research tools were applied, and the data was statistically analyzed and processed with the help of Microsoft Excel and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program, and the following results were reached: Postgraduate students at the University of Al-Qadisiyah enjoy emotional involvement, and there are statistically significant differences in emotional involvement according to gender variables. (males-females) and in favor of females, while there are no statistically significant differences in the averages of emotional preoccupation among graduate students according to the variable of specialization (scientific, human), and the stage (Master’s Doctorate), that the study students have cognitive dependence within the middle limit, in favor of males While there are statistically significant differences in the cognitive dependence of graduate students according to the variables of sex (male-female) in favor of males, and there are no statistically significant differences in the cognitive dependence of graduate students according to the variables of specialization (scientific, human) and stage (Master’s – Ph.D.), while there is a positive, statistically significant correlation at the level of significance (0.05) between emotional preoccupation and cognitive dependence, in favor of males (scientific specialization), while There are no statistically significant differences in the relationship between emotional preoccupation and cognitive dependence among graduate students according to the variables of gender (male - female), specialization (scientific - human), and stage (Masters - PhD). Postgraduate studies at the University of Al-Qadisiyah with a percentage of (0.187), and based on the results that were reached, the researchers made a number of recommendations Keywords: emotional preoccupation, cognitive dependence, postgraduate students
