Abstract

The study aims to specify the system of parameters used to classify and describe the German fixed verbal-nominal combinations consisting of a functional verb and a deverbative noun. The article systematises their distinctive features, draws a comparison between different approaches to describing these units in scientific and educational literature. The research is novel in that it adds to the list of parameters by means of the features typical of nominal components representing specificity of these structures in the German language, which makes it possible to describe their functionality. Following on the results of the study, the author suggests considering actional and syntactic characteristics of a noun’s initial verb, a degree, to which a noun retains its processual semes, and related variative potencies of a noun as additional parameters of classification and description.
