Abstract

The paper deals with studying the range of problems in the story “Behind Us Is Moscow” by Munir Kunafin, one of the most significant representatives of modern Bashkir literature. The aim of the research is to identify the socio-philosophical, moral, ethical problems of the above-mentioned story. The paper is novel in that it is the first in Bashkir literary studies to analyse this work taking into account the ideological, aesthetic, historical and literary aspects. As a result of the research, the range of problems has been revealed, the specifics of the conflict and the ideological-artistic originality of the story have been identified. The main conflict is connected with the collision involving the sale of land of Bashkir villagers to metropolitan buyers. In the conditions of social transformations, the contradictions between the “locals” and the “newcomers” develop into the “us” – “them” opposition. The conflict reveals the problems of the spiritual confrontation of generations, the freedom / lack of freedom of the individual, the need for people’s moral principles. The role of the characters’ relationships, which is of great importance in exploring their personality, as well as the philosophical, moral and ethical views of the characters of the work has been determined.
