Abstract

This thesis presents a result of the research that considered the illustrations in middle school Chinese textbooks from the perspective of gender:BR First, based on the previous studies on other textbooks where they were analyzed from the perspective of gender, a research plan related to illustrations of everyday Chinese with perspectives on gender was presented.BR Second, only the illustrations in the texts of the textbooks were used for the research, and illustrations with gender prejudice and gender-free ones were obtained and categorized. According to the result of an analysis of the illustrations in the texts of the everyday Chinese textbooks, male and female characters were nearly the same in terms of how they were spread and where they appeared; and no discriminatory elements were found. But as for occupations by gender and distribution of roles, gender prejudice was still inherent. As for occupations that are recognized as typical female occupations (e.g. housewife, salesperson, clerk), females were still engaged in them.
