Abstract

Objectives The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of parenting efficacy and social support of mothers with preschoolers on parental burnout.
Methods A survey research was conducted with 250 mothers with young children that enrolled in private kinder-gartens in the city of B. Three inventories measuring parenting sense of competence(Shin, 1997), social sup-port(Park, 1985) and parental burnout(Han, 2010) were used to collect data. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS(version 25). Pearson's correlation was used to identify the relationship with variables, and multiple re-gression analyses were used to analyze the influence between variables. Before running multiple regression anal-ysis, multicollinearity was confirmed by the VIF value, and the independence of the residuals was verified by the Durbin-Watson value.
Results Before analyzing data according to research questions, correlations among variables used in this study were calculated and it was found that parenting efficacy, social support and parental burnout are inter-correlated. The results of analyses according to the first research question showed that parenting efficacy negatively influ-enced on parental burnout and two sub-variables of parenting efficacy also negatively influenced on parental burnout. The results of analyses according to the second research question showed that social support negatively influenced on parental burnout and only evaluateve support of social support negatively influenced on parental burnout.
Conclusions Results of this study revealed that parenting efficacy and social support were significant influential variables of parental burnout. This study is significant in terms of showing variables related to parental burnout which draws attention recently in the field of burnout.
